Immunoglobulins
Natural support for your horse's immune system
A strong immune system is crucial for the health of horses – especially in foals, whose immune defenses are still developing. Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies, play a central role in this. They help the body recognize and ward off pathogens and make an important contribution to the stability of the immune system.
What are immunoglobulins?
Immunoglobulins are proteins of the immune system that react specifically to viruses, bacteria, or other foreign substances. They are produced in the body itself or can be absorbed through food. Young foals, in particular, benefit from the intake of immunoglobulins in the first weeks of life to ensure adequate protection against infections.
How immunoglobulins support the immune system
1. Protection against pathogens
Immunoglobulins recognize and neutralize bacteria and viruses. They help the immune system react more quickly to foreign invaders and reduce the risk of infection.
2. Support for gut flora
A healthy gut is crucial for a strong immune system. Immunoglobulins can help stabilize the intestinal barrier and promote the colonization with beneficial bacteria.
3. Special importance for foals
Newborn foals initially have a weak immune system. Immunoglobulins from the first milk (colostrum) or targeted supplementary feeds strengthen the immune defenses and can significantly reduce the risk of diarrhea, infections, or other health problems.
4. Support in stressful situations
Stress, such as that occurring during competitions, transports, or stable changes, can put a heavy strain on the immune system. Immunoglobulins can stabilize the immune defenses here and help maintain the horse's natural resilience.
When feeding immunoglobulins is advisable
- For newborns: Especially in the first weeks of life, particularly if colostrum intake was insufficient.
- After stressful situations: Transport, competitions, or stable changes put a strain on the immune system – immunoglobulins support regeneration here.
- In case of increased risk of infection: In stables with high infection density or during cold waves.
- After antibiotic treatments: Supports the regeneration of the immune system and gut flora.
