Amino acids

Your horse's hoof is a complex, living tissue that is constantly growing and renewing itself. Healthy hoof horn relies crucially on a supply of high-quality amino acids – the building blocks for keratin, the main protein of the horn.

How Amino Acids Promote Hoof Development

1. Keratin Formation

The hoof horn consists predominantly of keratin. Amino acids like methionine and cysteine provide sulfur compounds that are directly incorporated into the keratin structure. The result: a firm, elastic horn that can better withstand stress.

2. Cell Division and Growth

The corium continuously produces new horn cells. Amino acids are essential for these cellular processes. An adequate supply ensures that the horn grows evenly and strongly – hooves become denser, more stable, and more resilient.

3. Improvement of Horn Structure

Regularly supplemented amino acids can make the horn structure denser and less brittle. This reduces cracks, breaks, and hoof fissures, which often occur due to inadequate supply.

4. Support for Regeneration

After hoof injuries or farrier interventions, amino acid supply helps to build up new, stable horn more quickly. This shortens the time until complete regeneration and sustainably stabilizes the hooves.

When Amino Acids Are Particularly Beneficial

  • For soft, brittle, or cracked horn
  • During shedding and growth phases, when the hoof is particularly stressed
  • After hoof injuries, farrier interventions, or laminitis
  • For high-performance horses that place high demands on hooves and horn
